POSITIVES:
Ideal size and strength. Experience at linebacker and defensive end. Has a nice array of pass rush moves and is able to consistently get into the backfield.
CONCERNS:
Limited experience as a starter and very little experience at linebacker. Used primarily as a situational pass rusher up until his senior year.
COLLEGE:
2008:
The converted linebacker and former walkon had a banner year as a junior as a third down pass rusher -- more of an every down player this year...quick lineman that teamed with Victor Butler to be two of the best pass rushers in the nation last season.
2007:
2007: Slade moved from linebacker to defensive end prior to the season and accounted for nine sacks and 10 overall tackles-for-loss...16 tackles for the season...his 87 sack yards was the third-highest in the Pac-10.
2006:
Nine tackles for the season as a special teams and linebacker contributor...named the defensive scout team MVP following the season.
2005: Injuries forced him to miss most of the season.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Slade's prep career was slowed by injuries, including a broken leg suffered in a November game of his senior year...even with his injuries he was named to the All-Metro second team as a defensive back and third team as a slot receiver...played in only five games of his senior season...lettered and started four years for head coach Ken Potter...lettered three years in baseball and led the team to second place in the state as a junior...played center field and pitcher, and hit .583 as a junior...also lettered one year in basketball.
PERSONAL:
Born in Portland, Oregon...son of Randy and Sue Norris...Randy is a chiropractor and Sue is a homemaker...has one brother, Zane...recipient of the Multnomah Athletic Club Scholar-Athlete Award in 2002...chose OSU because of "the combination of great academic and football programs, and the opportunity to play in the Pac-10 Conference has been a dream of mine"...majoring in speech communication and will graduate in March.
